Aloha

I've awoken from a deep sequined sleep, and am saying "hello" with this round up of sequined party frocks stolen shamelessly from This is Glamorous. Few things make me more excited for the holidays that wearing my backless black sequined dress. Speaking of which, we need New Years Eve plans stat.

Suits

Thoughts on short suits for work? I have a grey tweed pair of work shorts that I've worn (only) once, but all day long I felt out of sorts. Perhaps a matching jacket would quell my concerns? This outfit would be super cute for a ladies lunch. Via Design Love Fest.

Vogue

A masquerade ball and Vogue magazine? Any Sequins girl naturally gets excited at the possibility of attending the 90th anniversary party of French Vogue in Paris. You can see more images here.

Runway

When I was a young girl, I gushed over Fashion Television and the amazons on the runway. I wondered if I'd grow to be tall (I didn't) and if I'd be glamourous (a decidedly mixed conclusion). Love Made Visible is my new favourite blog for monitoring runway trends. These days I wonder "how can I make that outfit translate for my 9-to-5 gig?" (I'm still debating how to wear the sequined tank to the office). Image via Love Made Visible.

White

It is well past Labour Day but I'm still longing to wear many shades of white (I miss my white short shorts already). Image via The Sartorialist.

Make Up

In my dreams, a make up artist applies liquid eyeliner perfectly on my lids each morning and my cheeks are always perfectly flushed. Images via Fashion Toast.

Burch

For my 26th birthday, I gifted myself a pair of black patent Tory Burch flats (which as seen above are perfect for Audrey too!). Tory's blog is so fun! Image via Tory Burch.

Hair

While primping for my lovely friend's wedding last Saturday (you can see my 'do above), we got to chatting with our stylists about coloured hair. The conversation lead to the realization that I was the only(!) bridesmaid with virgin hair. I was shocked, not at the prevalence of colouring, but at the realization that my hair is its natural colour. Despite having not coloured it in the past two years, before that time I'd been addicted to dye and bleach since I was 13. I sort of forgot. If you're thinking of colouring your tresses, here's the low-down on fall 2010's hottest trends.

Dress-Up

I'd love to play dress up here. Photos via The Cherry Blossom Girl.

Rosemary

A beautiful name and the protagonist of a creepy film, Rosemary. I love Design*Sponge's ideas for living in Rosemary's Baby, minus the possessed by the devil part.

P.S. 42 years later Mia's bob is still as chic as it was in 1968.

Date

The perfect fixings for a date night at home or in Bannerman Park! Everything is better with cheese, crusty bread and ranunculus. Image via You Are My Fave. Full party details available at Style Me Pretty.

Bivver

My new go-to haunt, steps from our home at the Sheraton Hotel, is Bivver (which means to shiver and shake). I highly recommend the lounge for a midweek date, a business meeting or a gossip session with your best girlfriend. Greg and I attended the grand opening back in May and have been addicted ever since.

Dessert

I love the decadence of dessert for breakfast. Chocolate is the perfect get-up-and-go in the am. Images via Desserts for Breakfast.

This fun menu also sounds perfect for a night of hanging with friends and playing board games. I hope the recipe for thyme roasted apples is posted soon!

Airports

I hold an unpopular opinion in Canada: I prefer to fly Air Canada over WestJet. I love spending time in the Air Canada terminal at Pearson International Airport in Toronto (with huge windows, streaming CBC, Rocky Mountain chocolate, Lush and 15 minute massages, what's not to love?). I am feeling a bit of an urge to do travel-related things like buy new luggage tags and a cashmere wrap to use on my next (to-be-determined) jet-setting adventure. I don't love flying, but I do enjoy spending time in airports. Image via Fashion Toast.

Given the above, it should come as no surprise that Greg and I had our first kiss in an airport, and one of the best movies I've seen in recent years is Up in The Air.

P.S. I'm also now listening to this Florence + The Machine song.

Blue

Have you ever worn blue mascara? As a blue-eyed gal, I hadn't until recently (I was scared of being likened to an 80s hipster), but I have to say that navy mascara is my new great beauty find. It helps that you can grab a tube of Cover Girl Lash Exact for mere pennies.

Pony

I'm loving strapless dresses and pony tails. Via Oh Hello!

Society

If you're in a web surfing mode, why not add the Society Syndicate to your blog roll? These ladies have so many fun party ideas (and their full striped skirts help)! Love! Image via the Toronto Star.

Grey

Grey boyfriend sweaters paired with sequined skirts are perfect for fall. Image via I love Wild Fox.

Secret

I'm pretending that surfing over to Punky B daily will eventually result in me becoming fluent in French (which is a horrible skill to lack when your husband's paternal family is French!). Image via Punky B.

Pamela

This woman is a Sequin's girl's alternative to Pamela Anderson (a la Baywatch). Images via the Sugar Diaries.

Martini

Here's what we're mixing in our house this summer. Delicious! Image via Lodos.

Skirt

This skirt, paired with a black cashmere turtleneck, black tights and black pumps, makes me excited for fall and impromptu dinners on Friday evenings with my husband at Get Stuffed. Skirt available from J Crew.

Consulting

In honour of my newly launched DIY wedding consulting business, Horizontal Stripes + Sequins, here's the inspiration board from our 22 May 2010 nuptials. Images used in my inspiration board via Real Simple, Renorx, The Knot, Samyii, The Knot, Style Me Pretty and Design Sponge.

Elegance

I highly recommend reading Garance Dore's answer to the question: what is elegance? Image via Garance Dore.

Regatta

This is what a glamourous girl would wear to the Regatta. Image of Zara's summer collection via Lost.

P.S. I've always loved the name Zara for a girl (after learning of the name many years ago from my grandma and her love of the Royal Family).

8/2/10

Sartorialist

Any current glamazon longs to be profiled on the Sartorialist. Here's how, via Refinery 29.

Tank

Deep inside, I wish I had the courage to wear a sequined tank under a business suit to the office. Kate Spade has perfected the sequined tank in Lena.

Haven

A Sequins girl has an affinity with Paris (naturally... given the romance and flower markets). Haven in Paris offers the perfect resting places for such ladies to enjoy a visit in the city of love.

Fridge

This is the dream kitchen for a glamour girl's summer cottage. Image via The Love List.

Roitfield

If you love Paris and/or French Vogue, there's a chance you've lusted after the lifestyle of French Vogue Editor-in-Chief, Carine Roitfield and her socialite daughter Julia. If this is true of you, I Want to be a Roitfield is a must-surf blog for you. Image via I Want to be Roitfield.

Gainsbourg

If Sequins were a love song, it would be Je T'aime...Mon Non by Serge Gainsbourg. Image via Cinebeats.

Working

Even working girls need glamour (via A Glamorous Little Side Project).

Lighting

Found: proof that glamour is all about the right lighting (and an opportune wind tunnel). Image via Studded Hearts.

Hello

A balance to the reality of Horizontal Stripes, this new blog provides an outlet for my painted-toes, rouged lips, glamourous alter ego - Sequins. While I'm a Saturday afternoon girl about town in a horizontal striped t-shirt, my date night persona is decidedly decked out in a backless sequined dress (see above). I hope you'll consider joining me here when you find whim or purpose to indulge your glamourous side.
